Biography:
Lieberman is a San Francisco based photographer who specializes in making images of people of note. She has worked in both the fine art and commercial arenas. She is particularly adept at encouraging a personality to come forth during a photo session and some of this skill comes from working in the field of Psychiatry prior to her becoming a photographer. She has a deep conviction and interest in people and often spends time reading or researching her subject before meeting them in the studio. Often she is sent on assignments when the subject is difficult or their is a sensitive issue being portrayed. Her clients find her responsible and productive no matter the complexity of the work.

Artist Statement:
Being an artist is a simple and graceful place for me to live. I reach out to try and bring a bit of the world to whomever looks at the pictures on the wall or the printed page. I relish the notion that someone somewhere stops for a moment to ponder what I’m asking in my picture. I love what I do. I carry that sensibility with me wherever I go.
I like making pictures. Photographing is so much a part of my life it’s hard to step aside and describe what I do most of my waking hours. My first career was in the field of Psychiatry where I worked hard at listening and trying to understand what others were expressing.
I then chose photography to express my own ideas and concerns. Since then I’ve had the good fortune to be involved in several venues: the national press corps; individual portrait sessions in my studio with people I hold in high esteem; editorial work with staffs from various publications; exhibitions of various bodies of work. Most dear to my heart are my individual projects and my three published books, which have kept me balanced in the years of commercial endeavors. I have always felt my work for others and for myself is similar and expresses my own aesthetic and desire to show the undersurface of the person or thing or place I’m looking at.
Curiosity has led me through various terrain in image making and writing. I like exploring an idea that crosses my path and finding a way to visually articulate it’s meaning for me. Using the facts presented to me, I fabricate my images with a bent toward fiction and the telling of a story. I once met a man who was a “Historiador”. He made his living by going from door to door and telling ancient stories. I would like to think my work is similar.
